Induction Service for New Headmaster

Mr Michael Leach was warmly received as King’s College’s new Headmaster at a service of Induction in the Memorial Chapel on Tuesday 21 October.

In front of a packed Chapel, Reverend Warner Wilder welcomed the Headmaster, together with the Chairman of the Board, Mr Ross Green, Board member Mr Scott Johnson, staff and students to this important service. The Right Reverend Ross Bay, Bishop of Auckland officiated, with Head of School Ben Ganley, reading the appointed lesson.

The Bishop spoke of the truly Christian ethic of servant leadership and then invited Mr Green to present the Headmaster for commissioning. After having committed himself to the role, and to upholding the mission and values of the College and the Chapel, Mr Leach was presented with a photograph of the Chapel by the Senior Sacristans as a memento of the occasion. He was then led to his seat at the rear of the Chapel, a symbol of his installation as Headmaster, accompanied by rapturous applause by those gathered.

Reverend Gareth Walters offered a prayer on behalf of the College and the service concluded with a blessing from the Bishop after the congregation, in fine voice, sang the final hymn.

The service marked an important beginning for our new Headmaster and was a wonderful expression of the College’s support for Mr Leach and of our future together.
